We’ve seen the print ads for dry erase paint, but this you tube video demonstrating dry erase paint in action was pretty interesting. An imaginative option for conference rooms or employee brainstorming areas as well as restaurants and coffee shops for menu items or seasonal specials. We think of it as ever-changing wallpaper with lively potential.

Pantone’s 2010 Color of the year is…turquoise! A beautiful blend of two of our favorite colors, blue & green.
”An inviting, luminous hue, as the color of the year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.” – Pantone
[Click here to read more about the color and why Pantone chose it as the color of the year.]

See a few select photos of the color of the year in action below…
Looks like Mary Mac of Allora Home was thinking ahead when she created this chair. What a great use of the color of the year.

Glossy turquoise-painted flooring works well against the subtle, neutral striped banquet in this beach home designed by Windsor Smith.

What a fitting watery backsplash for a beach house. Even better, matching appliances.

We’re off for the holidays…see you in the new year! All our best to you and your’s -

You may recall previous posts on artists Hayley Gaberlavage and local Stacey Bradley of Perla Anne. Well, we’re thrilled to be using some of their work in a downtown media room wall series. These just arrived this week and we had the pleasure of meeting Stacey in person who dropped her peacock and eames chair prints by the studio. Here’s a peek at the the progress.

[Media room concept illustration] Our client wanted a fun, playful environment for watching movies and lounging that both he and his children would enjoy. The design choices were inspired by a piece of artwork [filled with bright, energetic hues] he recently received.

Works just in from Perla Anne & Hayley Gaberlavage that will be incorporated in the series. Both introduced to us by Style Court.

Before Thanksgiving, we had the pleasure of taking a private tour of the Coastal Living Cottage [thanks to Deborah at Structures Building Co.]. The design team did a magnificent job in creating a stylish, eclectic cottage with a funky edge, from the unique architectural elements and interior finishes through the furnishings. Might we add, we admired it so much that we could easily move in as is!
Here are our top 10 picks:
10. Master Rug from Madeline Weinrib Atelier [a favorite of our's as you may well know from past posts]

Cotton Flatweave Song in Raisin

This rug plays off of the design of the linen print canopy and acts as a beautiful base to the room.
9. Studio Adjustable Floor Lamp in Rubbed Antique Brass, Circa

This handsome lamp adds nice height to the living room and its 28″w shade lends a hint of drama.
8. Peter Dunham Textiles’ Pasha Ikat fabric in sleeping nook

Adored the cozy, inviting atmosphere of the sleeping nook off the den as well as Angie’s interpretation of layers through pattern and texture. We were especially drawn to the eggplant “pasha” hue in Peter Dunham’s ikat print.
7. Vintage Rattan headboard in master suite, Angie Hranowsky Design Studio

What unexpected and attractive juxtaposition of this vintage rattan enveloped in the linen and silk canopy.
6. Guest Suite Essex Chest from Somerset Bay

Shown in the truffle finish used in the show home.
The Essex chest was a great choice for this room as it acts as a subtle, yet intricate detail against the warm chocolate room. The truffle finish worked beautifully as its corner details compliment the wall color as well.

5. Dining Chairs: Slipcovered low-back campaign chairs from Lee Industries intermingled with vintage Knoll Bertoia Chairs from Foxglove Antiques offer a casual, yet elegant approach to the dining room. We typically enjoy metal and upholstery used together, especially in this case as the white antique metal provides a crisp pop to the room.

4. Vintage Link Trim, Kelly Wearstler Groundworks for Lee Jofa

Pictured in saffron, this trim is the perfect finishing accent. So much so that our principal designer will be using it in her new master bedroom. We’ll be sure to share photos when finished.

Shown along loveseat in den.
3. Salvaged Newel Post from Southern Accents Architectural Antiques.

As we always say, incorporating vintage pieces undoubtedly adds character to any space. Perfect example here. We also love this similar option from their inventory as well.

2. Nottingham Honeycomb Ceramic Tile, Ann Sacks

This Nottingham Honeycomb adds intriguing 3-D texture and creates such a bold statement when treated as an entire wall application. The color choices here work very well in a coastal setting with an almost shell-like appearance.
1. Molly B. Right’s Stunning Bottlecap Artwork

Absolutely divine! This piece was our favorite throughout the entire home. What an original concept which is mesmerizing in person. Definitely check out her work. Here’s another from her online portfolio that we couldn’t resist sharing. Take note…she does pet portrait applications as well…what a nice gift for a loved one.

We hope you’ve enjoyed our top 10 picks. For more on the Coastal Living idea cottage, click here. Also, don’t miss the behind-the-scenes photo journal from Structures Building Company.

We discovered these antique roller lamps during our last market trip and were very interested in the story behind them. They’re made from original french wallpaper and fabric print rollers used from the 1920’s – 1950’s. Each roller has been carefully restored to preserve as many of the architectural markings and detailings as possible. Given the nature of these lamps, each one is unique and though the dimensions may vary, the approximate height is 30″. Shade not included. Call the studio for details 843.278.8707.
